Belts and Hoses
Auto belts keep things moving and provide a variety of functions. Fluids usually run through auto hoses, and sometimes the fluids are under pressure. The one type of hoses which do not contain fluids is the vacuum hoses, which use air as a switching device. Our technicians at McGee Auto can identify problems with any belts and hoses. We can make sure your car keeps running as it should.
A faulty drive belt can cause the car to overheat, the power steering to quit working, and various accessories to fail. A serpentine belt not only controls the power steering, but also the alternator, the timing, and the smog pump. A break can cause enough internal damage to your car to ruin the engine in certain cases. Our technicians will routinely check your serpentine belt to make sure there are no cracks or weak spots. The timing belt on some cars can become worn and need to be replaced as well. Most modern day timing belts are inside the engine, helping the crankshaft and the camshaft work together to move the pistons. McGee Auto understands that not all cars are alike, and we diagnose and treat your car’s problems based on its own specifications.
Cracks or holes in a brake hose can make the brake pedal spongy at the very least. At worst, you could lose all braking ability. Your brake hose, also known as your brake lines, should be inspected any time your car is on the rack for a lube job or other maintenance procedure. Coolant hoses are essential in the cooling system of the auto to move the heated liquid through the radiator so that it can be cooled, and then to move it back to cool the engine. Coolant hoses, or radiator hoses, may separate, bulge, crack or chafe against another car part until a whole rubs through them. That is why they must be constantly checked. The newer fuel hoses rarely rupture or leak under normal circumstances. If they do, they need to be replaced right away. If you have any problems with your belts or hoses, or you just want a thorough inspection of them, come by one of McGee Auto’s 20 Florida locations to get the job done.
